It’s official! The GPMP has been awarded a $15,000 from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Business Enterprise Grant (RBEG) program to begin the planning and design phase for a USDA inspected meat facility to be built here in the greater Palouse area. When combined with the matching funds, the project will have $20,000 to research and collect information required to make the project a success. We would like to take this opportunity to recognize and thank our donors who helped make this possible, listed in no particular order.

It has taken a while for it to really sink in, but we now have the grant funds to move forward on this exciting project. Our next steps will be to contact a consultant to carry out the scope of work required to meet the GPMP and USDA research needs. Set up an October kick-off meeting with the consultant, stakeholders and producers to learn the process and requirements.
The Clearwater Economic Development Association wrote the grant and will be administering this on our behalf, but we welcome more community partners to help us succeed with this project. The grant process is expected to take 14 months and be completed September, 2015. When finished, a complete plan that outlines the scope of operations and startup costs, (minus the full architectural drawings), for developing a small to medium sized local plant will be available. Knowing just how much it is going to cost to build and run the facility will allow us to understand the financing. At this point, the GPMP will know more of what is needed for a successful start-up, and what kind of financial investments are available to make this happen.
As if all of this wasn't exciting enough, the GPMP is launching a new and improved real live website this month. We are incredibly fortunate to have the help of Pam Holloway who created the site for us. The website will allow us provide you with up-to-the-minute information as our grant activity heats up, so we’re excited that we have it up and running now. You can find the GPMP at www.gpmp.weebly.com, where you can keep tabs on our progress, check our schedule and get in touch with us. As always, we are looking for your comments and suggestions to help us move forward.
Thank you for your continued support.
